2011 NFL Mock Draft: Da’Quan Bowers Tumbles to Detroit Lions at No. 13

Article By on 3rd April, 2011

2011 NFL Mock Draft Bowers Will Find Home with Ndamukong Suh in Detroit

Da’Quan Bowers has seen his draft stock continue to decline over the past two months. When we began the mocking, many penciled in Bowers as a potential No. 1 or No. 2 overall selection. After disappointing at Clemson’s Pro Day and teams expressing concerns over his knee injury, Bowers finds himself heading towards the middle of the first round.

Things could be worse, Da’Quan. Although some money will be left on the table, he will now be joining one of the best young teams in the league—The Detroit Lions.

Even better Da’Quan, you won’t be looked upon to lead an entire unit. No, that task has already been taken by last year’s No. 2 overall selection, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Suh is already the best defensive tackle in the game and will command all of the attention from the opposing offensive lines. This will allow Bowers to succeed in the NFL as offensive tackles look at Bowers second and Suh first.

“He has an aggressive bull rush off the edge that violently stuns the offensive tackle and gets him off balance. Although he doesn’t have elite quickness on the snap, he will be able to work on his timing and explosion off the ball with his position coach in the NFL,” according to Fox Sports’ Brian Billick.

The Lions have a chance to make a run at the NFC North title in 2011 after competing in nearly every 2010 contest. The Lions land a top selection at No. 13 overall due to the dark cloud hovering over Bowers. By adding a player of his pass-rushing caliber, Detroit will boast one of the top defensive lines in the entire league, and one that can compete against the quality quarterback play of Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler within the division.
