Teams that can keep drives alive, even if they don't score, greatly improve their chances of winning through ball control and milking the clock.
The good teams are the ones that consistently win the short-yardage battles, be it with great coaching, or more often, with good old-fashioned power in the trenches.
Denver was very bad in short yardage situations last year. Offensively, they were a complete joke, and defensively, they were a bit south of acceptable; a great formula for losing close games.
