Derrick Thomas to Be Honored By Chiefs

... linebacker Derrick Thomas will be honored this season as Kansas City will retire his number 58.

In a ceremony at halftime of the Chiefs matchup versus the Denver Broncos on Dec. 6, the Hall of Fame linebacker is sure to get another rousing standing ovation from the fans at Arrowhead.

Thomas played his entire 11-year NFL career for Kansas City after they drafted him No. 4 overall in the 1989 Draft.

On Jan. 23, 2000 Thomas was involved in a career-ending car accident which paralyzed him from the chest down. A few weeks later on Feb. 8, 2000, he died from a massive blood clot that was discovered in his legs and traveled to his lungs.
