Departure Of Rod Woodson Leaves Alabama’s Secondary Looking Even Greener

... you had heard enough about how difficult it would be for Alabama to defend its National Championship with such an inexperienced secondary, it was announced that sophomore safety Rod Woodson would be leaving the team.

Woodson's play in his freshman season was mostly on special teams as he participated in 12 games accumulating 12 tackles. In addition, he was expected to be competing with Robert Lester for the open starting safety position after Robbie Green was ruled ineligible.

In his press conference, Nick Saban stated that the two "mutually agreed that it would be better for him to continue his career somewhere else." Saban also made the indication that it could be contributed to academics and a lack of maturity from Woodson.
