2011 NFL Mock Draft: With the Seventh Pick, the San Francisco 49ers Select…

Article By on 4th March, 2011

LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

It’d be an absolute shocker if Patrick Peterson slipped any further than seventh in this draft.

The corner from LSU had a transcendent performance at the Combine, clocking in with a time of 4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash, nearly breaking Deion Sanders’ sub-4.3 record.

Which is even more impressive considering that Peterson, at 6′ and 219 pounds, is nearly 30 pounds heavier than Deion was when he ran it.

Some have pegged Peterson as the best cornerback prospect since Charles Woodson, someone with whom the 49ers, as regional rivals of the Oakland Raiders and conference foes of the Green Bay Packers, are very familiar.

Sure, San Fran would love to ring in the Jim Harbaugh era with a shiny new quarterback, but 1) taking any of the other quarterbacks in this draft would be a serious reach, 2) the Niners could use some youth in their defensive backfield, and 3) Peterson is just too good to pass up at this point.
