2011 NFL Mock Draft: The New York Giants Must Upgrade Their Line in 1st Round

Article By on 4th April, 2011

Kiper: Mike Pouncey, OG Florida

McShay: Mike Pouncey, OG Florida

Kirwan: Nate Solder, OT Colorado

Rang: Mike Pouncey, OG Florida

Reuter: Muhammad Wilkerson, DT Temple

My pick: Mike Pouncey, OG Florida

The New York Giants biggest need in the draft is an offensive lineman, specifically a guard. Mike Pouncey is the best player at that position, therefore it makes total sense the Giants will draft him. Reuter’s pick is an option, but adding depth to the offensive line is a much bigger need for New York.

The hype around Pouncey is that he will be just as good as his Pro Bowl twin brother. If he is, then that is great for whatever team drafts him. However, I don’t think he’ll live up to his brother’s excellent rookie season. Pouncey will be playing the guard spot in the NFL and may struggle a bit more than Maurkice did.

The versatility that Pouncey has makes him a hot pick. He can play guard as well as center. The Giants really need depth on the offensive line to protect for Eli Manning at all times. The addition of Pouncey will help New York in that aspect. They just have to hope Eli throws it to the right guy.
