2011 NFL Draft: More Quarterbacks Drafted in the First Round Than People Think?

Article By on 25th March, 2011

In most people’s 2011 NFL Mock Drafts, they have only two quarterbacks going in the first round.

However, this will not be the case. There are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks and these teams are going to rely on the NFL Draft to get them. If these teams wait to long to pickup a quarterback they may not have the opportunity to get that quarterback in the second round or rounds after that.

With this said, there will be three quarterbacks going in the first round of the NFL Draft.

There has been recent talk about QB Blaine Gabbert being the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. The Carolina Panthers are in need of a quarterback and Gabbert would be a perfect fit for them.

However, if he does not go to the Panthers, teams like the the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans would all be a good fit for him.

Likewise, QB Cam Newton could end up at any of those teams as well. However, it is looking like Gabbert will be picked over as draft day nears.

There is no need for either of these players to panic, because they will get drafted in the first round and most likely in the top ten for that matter.

With this said, these two quarterbacks are a lock for being picked in the first round. There is one other quarterback that almost is certain to be chosen in the first round, and his name is Jake Locker

There are a lot of teams that would be willing to take a chance on Locker, but the main question teams have about him is his accuracy. However, Locker is a very good player and there are a lot of teams, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, that are very interested in him.

The only other quarterback that would possibly be drafted in the first round is Christian Ponder. However, this is very unlikely to happen.

Therefore, it is almost guaranteed that two quarterbacks will get drafted on day one, however do not be surprised if a third gets his name called in the first round.
