Why Will Malcolm Jenkins Become The Starting Free Safety In 2010

Article By on 13th May, 2010

I know what your thinking, if he won’t be starting next season, then why would the Saints sign him?

But I’ve been thinking, Darren Sharper is 34, he probably doesn’t have much left in the tank and he was resigned for just one year. Besides his back-up is 32.

So the question really is what are the Saints thinking for the future? It’s simple.

You see a year ago, the Saints selected CB Malcolm Jenkins, a promising star; but he couldn’t start even half of this season because of the addition of Jabari Greer, while having Tracy Porter and Randall Gay on the other side.

Things got more complicated this offseason with the addition of Patrick Robinson, who was selected in the first-round by the Saints in this year’s NFL Draft.

Sharper played extremely well last year, but the Saints know getting younger is the way, if they want to stay at the top.

And while Sharper is the better Safety, Jenkins is the future and since it looks like the corner-back position has been rejuvenated. Maybe switching Malcolm Jenkins to FS may be the way.

He has the abilities to become an elite safety and with Darren Sharper as a back-up he cant take a year to learn the position and by 2011 being the full time starter.

Now tell me what do you think.
