Miami Dolphins Extend Davone Bess, Making Him NFL’s Highest Paid Slot Receiver

Article By on 17th October, 2010

The Miami Dolphins signed slot receiver Davone Bess to a two-year extension just hours before he took the field against the Packers.

He went on to catch five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins 23-20 win. The specifics of the deal have not been disclosed, but he will become the highest paid slot receiver in the NFL.

The undrafted third-year pro out of Hawaii is currently making the veteran minimum $470,000 this season. Bess has caught 151 balls for 1,557 yards in his career with Miami. He has 26 receptions for 282 yards and two touchdowns through five games this season.

Analysis

Bess is an efficient player who possesses some of the best hands in football.

He might not have game-breaking speed, but he is an exceptional route runner who uses his great quickness to create separation. It’s hard to believe he went undrafted because he is one of the more polished wideouts in the NFL.

He displays excellent agility after the catch, usually faking out one or two defenders before being brought down. Bess is one of the more valuable assets on Miami’s roster and locking him down for the immediate future is a no-brainer.
