When I told a friend of this incident, he reminded me that, "no good deed goes unpunished."
And I guess in the won-loss crucible of college football coaching, the same might be said of Terry Shea, the former Head Football Coach at Rutgers.
Some time ago, he did a good deed for me. He was a decent man, but regrettably couldn't get the job done on the field.
After replacing Doug Graber in 1996, Shea led the Scarlet Knights through five gloomy years of football. He was fired from RU at the conclusion of the 2000 season after compiling an 11-44 record.
