SEC Powers Alabama and Tennessee Chose Separate Means to an End Zone

... the two greatest college football programs in what is now called the SEC. Their fates have been intertwined for over a century.

They have met on the field 90 different times and Alabama holds a slight 45-38 advantage, with seven other games ending in a tie.

They first met in 1901 with that game ending in a 6-6 tie. Since that day, they have been bitter rivals.

During the time of great coaches like General Neyland, Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas, Alabama and Tennessee both won their fair share in this rivalry. Those games from 1926 to 1952 were almost an even split.

During the years when Coach Bear Bryant led the Crimson Tide, Alabama dominated the series by winning almost 70 percent of those games.
