After inheriting former head coach Barry Alvarez's recruits, current coach Bret Bielema had a wildly successful 2006 campaign in which the Badgers went 12-1 and finished No. 5 in the coaches poll.
Perhaps that set the bar too high.
In the next year, Bielema guided Wisconsin to a 9-4 record. Not bad, but a considerable letdown after the 12-1 season.
Then came the epic failure that was 2008. Coming into the season ranked top 15 in the country, the Badgers were a dark horse for the Big Ten title. Six losses later that was a complete joke.
